In 2020 the City of Bonn celebrates the 250th birthday of Ludwig van Beethoven. In the anniversary year of the great composer choirs and singers from Germany and other countries meet in Bonn to take part in the International Choir Festival for Youth and Adult Choirs „In the footsteps of Ludwig van Beethoven“.
The festival offers the opportunity to sing together with others, to meet, and to discover Beethoven’s music as well as Bonn at his birthplace. Attending choirs take part in workshops given by Jan Schumacher (DE) and Panda van Proosdij/ Hans Cassa (NL). Participating choirs can present themselves in an evening concert and an open singing in town.

Enjoy an amazing festival participation with your choir. Meet local choirs and from all over the world and share the love of choral music in the birthplace of Beethoven.

The Festival Program

Workshops for mixed youth choirs and adults

Each afternoon (from 29th  September to 03rd  October) the participants of the choir festival will meet in two workshops to learn a new program which will be presented in the final concert on 03rd October.

  • Under the motto “Music and Dance” mixed youth choirs will sing a mixed repertoire with movement and choireography with the dancer and choreographer Panda van Proosdij and the pianist Hans Cassa, both from the Netherlands. The repertoire will include a new, creative arrangement of Beethoven’s Ode to Joy.
  • Under the motto “Beethoven and friends” Jan Schumacher, a conductor from Limburg, Germany, who conducts ateliers and Open Singings worldwide, will work on new choir arrangements of works by Beethoven as well as other repertoire inspired by the themes of the Beethoven anniversary year. The repertoire will also include the Ode to Joy in a new version. (open to adult choirs as well as individual singers)

Open Singing

On one of the days the festival participants and Jan Schumacher will offer an Open Singing in town and sing the Ode to Joy, among others, together with the audience.
