The Marienberg fortress is situated majestically high above the city. From the baroque fortress and the artfully arranged royal garden, visitors have a lovely view of the old university town with its domes, towers and bridges, the Main Valley and the surrounding vineyards.
The Würzburg Residence lies in the city center and was built by Balthasar Neumann in the 18th century. The residence is the main work of the south German Baroque and also one of the most important castles in Europe. It is world famous for its unique and grand stairway created by Naumann and for its largest combined fresco in the world, created by the famous Venetian fresco painter Giovanni Battista Tiepolo. Because of this uniqueness, the residence is declared as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. Other sites worth seeing are:  the famous old stone bridge over the river Main from the 18th century with its baroque figures of saints. The Kilian Cathedral, the fourth largest Romanesque church in Germany with the added Schönborn chapel, another important work of Balthasar Neumann. The Neumünster, a Roman basilica with an extensive Baroque façade and the Falkenhaus with its impressive rococo-stucco façade. Würzburg is also the center of the Franconia wine.  Aside from the oldest and largest reserved slope of the Würzburger Stein, Würzburg is also home to the traditional vineyard Bürgerspital, Juliusspital and to the State Court Wine Cellar (Staatlicher Hofkeller)that all belong to the four largest vineyards in Germany.
So what could be more obvious than to enjoy the variety of the Franconia wine with a glass of wine at the State Court Wine Cellar of the Würzburg Residenz after a busy day of sightseeing.
