Bonn, the former German capital and birth place of Ludwig van Beethoven is the gateway to the romantic River Rhine and invites you to a cultural city trip. The rich and architectural heritage of a more than 200 year old city history is characterized by the venerable Friedrich Wilhelm University in the former Electoral Palace, the historic townscape with the Old Town Hall on the Market Square, the Muenster Basilica, the late nineteenth-century district in the southern part of the city with the Poppelsdorf Castle and the Botanical Gardens. The Old Town with numerous bars, restaurants and scene places is a popular place to meet. Anyone who likes museums, can enjoy exhibitions at the row of new museums along the “Museum Mile”: Federal Art and Exhibition Hall, the House of the History of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Museum Koenig as well as 20 other museums (among others the Beethoven House).
The former governmental district in Bonn with the former plenary hall of the German Parliament, the old waterworks, the “Lange Eugen” – present headquarters of several UN organizations and the Post Tower represent the modern city of Bonn and create an international flair.
The Beethoven Festival, taking place in September and October is world famous and attracts numerous guests from Germany and abroad.
