Italy

Bella Italia

The cradle of the Roman Empire is the fifth most visited destination in the world.
This doesn't come as a surprise considering what "the boot" has to offer...
Preserved historical sites, architectural treasures and artistic jewels, Italy is a gem of culture.
And let's not forget about the romantic and picturesque landscapes: from the impressive Alps to its gorgeous vineyards, right through to the crystal-blue water.
The "dolce vita" is a way of living and everything in Italy is there to remind you of that...

Highlights and tips

The Pisa Tower is another symbol of Italy. The construction of this Roman art jewel started in 1173 but had to be stopped 5 years later. Indeed, after starting building the 3rd floor, the Tower started leaning because of the unstable soil it was built on.
Since 2001, thanks to various restoration projects, the emblematic tower has straightened about 4cm.

Italy is the birth place of many famous artists.
One of them is Sandro Botticelli, one of the most important painters of the Italian Renaissance. Born in Florence, Botticelli participated to the decoration of the famous Sistine Chapel with 3 murals but his most famous piece remains The Birth of Venus, painted in circa 1485. Ode to femininity and allegory for spring, this masterpiece is now displayed in the Galleria degli Uffizi, in Sandro's birthplace, Florence

The pizza as we know it today was born in Naples.
Originally a poor man's dish, the legend holds that it became Queen Marguerite's favorite and that's how pizza became popularized.
Today, pizza is universal and 48.000 tons of pizza are consumed every year all over the globe.
But nothing beats a real Italian pizza... The thin but fluffy crust, the melted mozzarella on top and the strong but delicate basil smell will leave your taste buds craving for more!

Rome, the capital of Italy, was also the capital of the Roman Empire for almost 357 years.
With an area of 1278km² and 2,880,000 inhabitants, Rome is the biggest city in Italy and is the third European destination after London and Paris. And it’s not a surprise given the treasures that Rome offers… Culture, arts, gastronomy, history and flair: the Eternal City truly has it all!
